**Workshop suitable for Mom and children ages 8 and up - No previous art experience required for anyone**

*NO PRIOR ART EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.
Each person takes home their own completed painted rock, and participates in a mindfulness activity called inner home base which uses the rock You paint.

We will begin the afternoon getting creative with Kelly! Each mom and child will receive step-by-step instructions with Kelly and you will then choose your colours to make your rock. We will complete the day with an inner home base mindfulness activity with Angela Slade, MA, RCC. The stone is used as a mindfulness grounding tool that is helpul with big emotions like anger, anxiety, overwhelm, fear, or worry.

Mindfulness and creativity can add to the quality of our lives in numerous ways, from nurturing a sense of inner peace to improving the way we manage difficult e-motions.

In children specifically, mindfulness activities can:

  • Teach children and adults about how strong emotions can take hold, and how to find peace when these strong emotions come up.

  • Mitigate the effects of bullying (Zhou, Liu, Niu, Sun, & Fan, 2016)

  • Enhance focus in children with ADHD (Zhang et al., 2016)

  • Reduce attention problems (Crescentini, Capurso, Furlan, & Fabbro, 2016)

  • Improves mental health and well-being

  • Improve social skills when well taught and practiced in children and adolescents. As well as communication skills between parent and child/adolescent.

Plenty of research show that mindfulness is capable of improving mental health and well-being, attention, self-regulation, and social competency when well taught and practiced in children and adolescents.

Introducing mindfulness-based practices into everyday life can have a life-long impact on the psychological, social, and cognitive well-being of children, teens and adults.
