Each person takes home their own completed painted sign project and participates in an introductory session on mindfulness practice with a take home package.

We will begin the evening getting creative with Jennifer of Knotty Birch Studio! Mom/Guardian and daughter will each choose one inspirational sign to make. We will break up our creative time (to allow things to dry) with an introduction to mindfulness based practice with Angela Slade, MA, RCC. She will present what mindfulness is, why it is useful to have it in our day to day lives, and give mom's and daughter's a few simple anchoring tools they can incorporate it into day to day living. Jennifer will finish the afternoon helping you complete your art project to take home.

Mindfulness and creativity can add to the quality of our lives in numerous ways, from nurturing a sense of inner peace to improving the quality of our lives, from enhancing self-confidence to facilitating deeper and more meaningful relationships with others.

In children specifically, mindfulness has been found to:

  • can teach children and adults about how strong emotions can
take hold, and how to find peace when these strong emotions
    come up.

  • mitigate the effects of bullying (Zhou, Liu, Niu, Sun, & Fan, 2016)

  • enhance focus in children with ADHD (Zhang et al., 2016)

  • reduce attention problems (Crescentini, Capurso, Furlan, &
    Fabbro, 2016)

  • improves mental health and well-being

  • improve social skills when well taught and practiced in children
and adolescents. As well as communication skills between parent
    and child/adolescent.

Plenty of research show that mindfulness is capable of improving mental health and well-being, attention, self-regulation, and social competency when well taught and practiced in children and adolescents.

Introducing mindfulness-based practices into everyday practice can have a life-long impact on the psychological, social, and cognitive well-being of children and teens.
